and sing without any idea of the tune but I still enjoy music in all forms. I listen to a lot of Bollywood music (thanks to the radio) and some of them are very melodious compositions. I love the violin and the piano and listen to instrumental music on and off – without troubling myself about the tune, the arrangement of notes and other technical details that contribute to understanding music. Until now, that is.
My blissful ignorance has been rudely shattered by the child’s horror at the fact that I cannot tell an E from an A note (or any other note for that matter!). He refuses to believe that it is possible for anyone not to be able to understand the difference and has taken up the task of educating me… whether I want to be or not is apparently of no consequence here!
Sigh. What are children learning these days?
Hee hee
Awwww, kids and their ways!
I’m a little scared of meeting Arjun. He will see right through me and I will be labelled the ignoramus that I am.
If it was anybody else, I would accuse them of fishing for compliments. But since it’s you, I point you to your own blog posts in which you show us how creative you are. So now that we have established you as a creative soul, who need not be intimidated by Arjun, when are you visiting?
Ha ha, welcome to my world. Every time I sit DD and myself down to practice music, I hear your Sa needs to be higher Amma. And she won’t let us touch the keyboard without hovering over us. I feel like the whole parent child equation has been reversed, sometimes
Lol. I know how you feel. I like this role reversal even though I whine about it, mainly because I feel good that my child has the confidence to correct me and believes that I can become better at something!
i still cant tell the diff, if it is any consolation.
and in this house, along with me dwell 1 tanpura, 4 cellos, 1 piano, 4 tablas, 1 harmonium, 1 guitar, 2 shrutiboxes, 1 taalpeti and reams of sheet music.
let the children learn what they will i say.
I suppose your kids experiment off each other – mine experiments on me. So it looks like being tone deaf is not going to be an option much longer! Oh, all the hard work ahead of me!
i know, the things the kids make us do!
All good for a chuckle and a check in the ‘learnt a new thing today’ category!
Ok all I saw was *4* cellos!!!! Really chox? Please tell me they aren’t four full size ones? If they are please tell me where you live!
LOL! Come home and I will show ‘em all, then you can see all the quarters, halves and three-quarters!
